There's been a lot of attention lately surrounding preparing a survival kit and for good reason. With all the drama in the economy in recent months, it is possible that you may need to make use of a survival kit. Hopefully it won't come to that, but one never knows.

If you do need to make a survival kit, you're going to want to include a cast iron skillet and a cast iron dutch oven. Because cast iron cookware lasts for many many years and is very durable, it makes a better piece of survival cookware than a newer, non-stick pan. Over time your non-stick pan will lose it's coating, making it useless, whereas your cast iron cookware will only get better with age. Avid campers and outdoorsman have been using cast iron cookware to cook over a fire for many years and before the modern kitchen, cast iron cookware was a normal part of life.
