Cookware

When using cast iron, always be sure to be sure to apply a thin layer of cooking oil to the pan, whether it's canola, vegetable oil or something else. Do not cook at extremely high temperatures as this may remove the seasoning as well.

When cleaning your cast iron cookware first and foremost, NEVER put cast iron cookware in the dishwasher and NEVER use any harsh chemical to clean the cookware. Also, avoid letting it soak as this will contribute to the cookware losing its seasoning as well. When you're done using the cookware, do not place cold water in a hot cast iron pan either as this may actually cause damage to the cast iron. If you find that your dinner is a little well done and food does stick to the bottom of the pan, clean the cookware with steel wool, but don't forget to season it once again.

For best results, just wash your cast iron cookware in warm water with a soft cloth right after using and pat dry with a soft towel. You may choose to spray the pan with cooking oil and rub it in before storing the pan away to keep it seasoned as well. Some people do use a mild soap to clean their cast iron cookware, but many people claim that this takes away from the seasoning as well. Many foods, especially more acidic foods can also take away from the seasoning over time so keep this in mind.
